During the school year we will be learning many different sight words and words to practise reading (sounding out). Sight words are those that do not follow any rules and therefore most of them cannot be sounded out. They need to be memorized. The words to practise reading are those that follow rules of the English language and can be sounded out. Your child should know how to sound these out by themselves and will eventually have them memorized.
